Rohde & Schwarz Netherlands and The IP Company provide wireless open source communication solutions for the Dutch Navy
April 17, 2008 - Rohde & Schwarz Netherlands B.V. will provide together with The IP Company B.V. a wireless communications network to support the operational business on board of the four new patrol vessels of the Royal Dutch Navy. The choice for Rohde & Schwarz Netherlands is made by the Defensie Materiaal Organizatie (DMO) and they chose The IP Company as the exclusive subcontractor. This responds to the needs of the government to work with open source more.
The technology that is implemented by Rohde & Schwarz Netherlands together with The IP Company makes wireless ship communication possible, in an environment with steel walls. Furthermore, the highest possible attainable wireless network application is used, in particular for activities outside deck. Rohde & Schwarz Netherlands B.V. as the main contractor is responsible for the project management, installation documentation and project guidance. The IP Company is responsible for the implementation of the wireless network, an open source VoIP PBX, on the basis of a by The IP Company developed What’s Up system.
What’s Up is an acronym for (W)arning, (H)ost, (A)larm, (T)ask and (SUP)port. The system offers a platform where the control over several hardware parts and activities is managed, structured and kept.
The Build In Test facility guarantees fail-over and fault tolerance on a level which is necessary for seaworthiness. The hardware was selected by The Company IP from industrial, and seaworthy parts, which will make the complete solution meet to all facets of the environmental requirements.
